WITR-FM presents ‘Dunk a DJ’ event today

Station to unveil new logo and slogan, offer free prizes at on-campus celebration

It’s better than the “scan” button.

WITR-FM (89.7), RIT’s student-run radio station, will give its listeners—and anyone who has ever wanted to “plunge” a radio disc jockey—the opportunity to “dunk” its DJs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today outside of the Student Alumni Union.

“Dunk a DJ,” featuring a dunking booth in front of the SAU, promotes the station’s new slogan and logo. WITR will unveil a new station logo and revamped Web site today, and it will begin referring to itself as “WITR 89.7—The Pulse of Music” (with the call letters pronounced “witter”).

T-shirts featuring the new logo and other prizes will be given away, and tours of WITR studios, in the basement of the Student Alumni Union, will be offered.

“We’re trying to update and modernize WITR’s image to match our new and modern sound,” says Ben Isserlis, WITR general manager. “It’s an all-new look with a great new ‘taste!’”

Lucky for the DJs, today’s weather forecast calls for showers with temperatures in the 50s (not bad for a winter day in Rochester).

WITR will also host tailgate parties, 4–6 p.m. today and Saturday in D Lot, prior to RIT men’s hockey quarterfinal playoff games against Connecticut. Games begin at 7:05 p.m. in RIT’s Ritter Arena.
