Mike Hargrave, a fifth-year mechanical engineering technology student, put the RIT Baja car through a test drive in preparation for its first competition in 2010 in South Carolina.

The Baja race season begins for Rochester Institute of Technology April 8-12 at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research in Greenville, S.C. The team showcases the Tiger One, a new car and high expectations for the 2010 season.

RIT is one of 100 teams registered for the event. The majority of teams competing are from the United States, with a third from Canada, Mexico and Brazil. Teams begin competition in static events on April 9, and follow with the dynamic and endurance events the remainder of the weekend.

As one of the top teams in the country, the RIT team has high expectations for the new season. Last year, the team won top placements in design, acceleration and maneuverability in three U.S. competitions. It will compete this year in Washington State in May and then will host competitors for the Baja SAE Rochester Wet World Challenge June 10-12.
