RIT Global Village progress report

Multi-million dollar project is on schedule for fall grand opening

RIT’s Global Village complex, opening this fall, features unique residential and commercial space with an international flair.

The sighting of construction crews at RIT isn’t anything new, but a look beyond the backhoes often reveals the next magnificent project on the campus horizon. This fall, Global Village will open its doors to the RIT community and will provide students with state-of-the-art housing, dining and lifestyle options. The new $54.5 million residential and commercial space located between Crossroads and the University Services Center will open in August, just in time for student move-in, with an official grand opening slated for early fall quarter.

A newly released website provides anticipated, detailed information on housing amenities, suite and complex layouts, global theme locations, and dining options, including Salsarita’s Fresh Mex Cantina, RIT’s Global Grille and international market. These locations, as well as other site inhabitants such as Better Me Wellness Center and the HUB Print Center and Post Office, are all near the final stages of completion. The complex will also be home to the one-of-a-kind Global Village photo project, where student-submitted and commissioned photographs taken from around the world will be displayed throughout the complex to provide a visual, global experience for students to reference when they travel overseas.

“We’re really excited about the international ‘feel’ that Global Village will bring to our campus,” says Howard Ward, assistant vice president for Student Auxiliary Services. “We’re also pleased that Global Village housing is on schedule and the retail complex will be ready shortly afterwards. A project of this magnitude is only possible with the dedication and cutting-edge thinking of numerous individuals and departments, and we’re anticipating a tremendous response from the campus community and visitors, alike. Global Village will be unlike anything seen before on this campus.”
