The group of students from our production photography class wanted to recreate a historical, romantic painting for our final project. We selected the 1830 painting Liberty Leading the People by Eugene Delacroix. Our objective was to convey the feeling and mood from the painting in our photograph. We worked with graduate students from the dance department at SUNY College at Brockport. They were amazing to collaborate with and knew just what we were looking for. Thanks to RIT’s Panara Theatre, we were fortunate to find costumes that reflected the historical period. Little details like the fog and the flag were tricky to photograph. The photo shoot lasted about five hours. We are certainly proud of the final image and want to thank all those that helped make it happen.
