RIT named ‘Research Affiliate Member of the Year’

Statewide group works to boost growth in bioscience and medical technology

Dan Phillips, head of the biomedical engineering department, accepts the Research Affiliate Member of the Year award for RIT from Jessica Crawford, president of MedTech.

MedTech Association, a membership-based trade association for the bioscience and medical technology industry in New York state, has named Rochester Institute of Technology as the recipient of its 2014 Research Affiliate Member of the Year.

“RIT has been a long-standing member of MedTech and is consistently a go-to resource for our membership including public-private partnerships, training and industry best practices,” said Jessica Crawford, MedTech president. “We are proud to honor their continued support of MedTech and the biosciences and medical technology industry as a whole.”

Crawford cited RIT’s research faculty for their willingness to connect the association with the academic community, to ensure sharing of the latest and most important information and industry practices. And she noted a partnership with RIT’s Center for Quality and Applied Statistics—part of the Kate Gleason College of Engineering—to provide Lean Six Sigma and ISO training.

“We are very pleased to be recognized by MedTech with this award,” said Ryne Raffaelle, RIT vice president for research and associate provost. “We look forward to our continued association, as together we advance bioscience and medical technology.”

The award was presented at MedTech’s annual Members’ Dinner on June 19 at Seneca Hickory Stick in Lewiston, Niagara County. The event marked MedTech’s 10-year anniversary. MedTech, which now has more than 100 members, is an active New York state association of pharmaceutical, biotech and medical technology companies, their suppliers and service providers, and research universities. The organization boosts the growth and prosperity of its members by connecting them for collaboration, offering educational programs, sharing news and information, and advocating for the industry with government and leaders.
