Senior fine art photography students display work

Opening reception for ‘Cooking With Salt!’ is March 6

An exhibition called “Cooking with Salt” featuring work by RIT senior fine art photography students begins with a March 6 reception in the William Harris Gallery at Gannett Hall and runs through March 21.

The William Harris Gallery presents a collaborative exhibition by RIT senior fine art photography students titled “Cooking With Salt!,” beginning with a reception including light refreshments and conversation with the artists from 4 to 7 p.m. this Friday, March 6. The exhibit continues through March 21.

“ ‘Cooking with Salt’ celebrates the aesthetic and cultural explorations of graduating fine art students as they begin the next phase in their journey as young emerging artists,” said Therese Mulligan, professor and administrative chair of RIT’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. “This is the capstone event of their study at RIT.”

The exhibition showcases the work of 18 graduating seniors and encompasses a wide variety of subjects, from the autobiographical to the social landscape. Media of varying type is also featured, including analog and digital photographic processes, video and the handmade artist book.

Formerly the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences gallery, the William Harris Gallery underwent significant renovations last year—made possible due to the generous bequest by William Harris, a 1949 alumnus of the former Graphic Arts and Photography program at RIT. It marked the first renovation to the gallery in more than 30 years and includes additional display space, innovative installation features and an exhibition preparation area to meet the demands of new practices in the photographic arts and sciences.

The William Harris Gallery is located on the third floor of Gannett Hall at RIT. The gallery is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and by appointment. For information, call 585-475-2716 or go to the RIT College of Art and Design website.
