Sean Hansen, an associate professor in management information systems, will assume the role of director of Saunders College of Business’ MBA program immediately.

Sean Hansen has been appointed director of the MBA program in Saunders College of Business at Rochester Institute of Technology. Hansen, an associate professor in management information systems, will begin his new post immediately.

“Sean has distinguished himself as an outstanding teacher and research scholar and has taught and advised MBA and EMBA students across a wide array of management-related topics,” said Saunders College Dean Jacqueline Mozrall. “Sean’s expertise, residing at the intersection of management and technology, positions him well to guide us toward becoming one of the top MBA programs in the country that prepares students to lead in increasingly technology-intensive organizations.”

Hansen said he is very excited to be taking on the new position as director of the MBA program and grateful for the guidance and insight of Saunders College Professor Donald Wilson, who served in the role for more than 20 years. “His wealth of experience and institutional knowledge have been tremendous assets for this college,” said Hansen.

“This is an exciting time for the Saunders MBA program. Over the past year, we have worked hard on redesigning elements of the program to ensure that we are fulfilling the college’s mission, including a commitment to leading at the confluence of business, technology and design thinking.”

Hansen said the redesign efforts include an enhanced emphasis in areas such as data analytics and business intelligence, design and information systems, and supply chain management, as well as expanded partnerships with the other colleges and disciplines across RIT.

“The skills that our students are developing reflect those for which there are tremendous demand within the Rochester business community, across the country, and indeed around the globe,” said Hansen. “In the Saunders MBA program we are dedicated to continuing this process of discovery, redesign and innovation through close collaboration with our students, our alumni and our partners in the business community.”

Hansen joined RIT in 2010 and was awarded the 2013-2014 Richard and Virginia Eisenhart Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. He served as keynote speaker for the Fall 2014 convocation for new students and families. He is also the recipient of the Zutes Faculty Fellowship, the Saunders College Faculty Scholarship Grant and the Norman A. Miles Award for Academic Excellence in Teaching.

Hansen is a resident of Penfield, N.Y., and a native of Euclid, Ohio. He earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Harvard University, obtained both his MBA and Ph.D. degrees from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, and has been engaged in management consulting for more than 15 years.
