RIT hosts Thank A Giver (TAG) Day today

Third annual donor appreciation event promotes impact of donor support

Anyone who takes a picture of or with a tag thanking RIT donors for their support and posts it on social media using #RITTAGDAY will be entered into a drawing to win RIT swag.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to share the love and thank the thousands of donors who enhance student life at RIT.

The Fund for RIT will host the university’s third annual Thank A Giver (TAG) Day from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the Student Alumni Union. The goal of the event is to highlight the impact of donors’ contributions on the RIT experience and encourage university members to show their appreciation.

One thousand red tags will be placed throughout campus on buildings, classrooms and labs and even on students to show the many ways that donor generosity supports RIT.

At the SAU, TAG Day activities will include a donor “thank you” note writing station, games to educate university members on annual giving and the opportunity to make a gift to RIT. In addition, attendees who complete donor appreciation activities will receive a free T-shirt.

“We want donors to know how important their gifts are to RIT and our students,” said Fredyne Frey ’09 (communication and media technologies), associate director of student and recent alumni giving. “And we hope that through TAG Day our campus community better understands the impact that others’ giving has on them here at RIT.”

Last year, with gifts from more than 12,200 supporters, the Fund for RIT raised more than $5.3 million in support of colleges and academic programs, scholarships, student life, clubs and organizations and RIT’s unrestricted fund for the university’s greatest needs and more.

“RIT students contribute to society in so many ways, but they can’t do it on determination, intellect and innovation alone,” Frey said. “Donors provide crucial resources for the entire campus. From scholarships, to funding for faculty development and research, to support that enhances academic programs and campus facilities, every gift makes a difference. Because of our donors, our students are provided with opportunities that may have been out of reach.”

Follow #RITTAGDAY on Feb. 10 to see how much donors mean to the RIT community. For more information about TAG Day, or to request a tag, email Freddie Frey or call 585-475-4930.
