Black bear safely removed from campus

UPDATE: 10 a.m. June 22:

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation safely removed a black bear from campus today. The bear was found sleeping in a tree in F Lot by RIT Public Safety earlier this morning. They quickly secured the area.

The bear will be transported to a new home elsewhere in the state.

F Lot, located in the northern portion of campus, will be reopened shortly.

9:20 a.m. June 22:

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is removing a black bear from campus. The bear is located in a tree near F Lot, on the north side of campus.

RIT Public Safety has been monitoring the scene since early this morning, and quickly barricaded the parking lot. Please stay away from this area until further notice.
