Brick City features Trevor Noah of ‘The Daily Show’

Host and comic is part of homecoming with more than 100 events

Trevor Noah, host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, will be speaking at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend, Oct. 13-15.

The weekend typically draws 17,000 participants to RIT’s campus and the Rochester area. It features more than 100 events during three days, including notable speakers and Tiger men’s and women’s hockey games.

“We have a plethora of activities planned for everyone at this year’s family weekend,” said Lynn Rowoth, assistant vice president of special events and director of Brick City Homecoming. “With a wide array of speakers, tours, reunions, athletic events and so much more, the appeal is broad to intrigue and attract our students, parents, families, alumni, staff, faculty and guests.”

“We have been planning this weekend since October of last year,” said RIT Student Government President Farid Barquet. “We have many of the fan-favorite events returning, such as Dueling Pianos, Build a Tiger, men’s and women’s hockey, and there are many new and exciting events. You also can’t miss our Student Government performer this year, Trevor Noah, who we are thrilled to meet. It’s definitely a fun-packed weekend!”

Noah, who began his career as an actor, presenter and comedian in his native South Africa, is appearing 1-2 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the Gordon Field House. Tickets are $10 for RIT students, $20 for RIT faculty, staff, alumni, families and the public and are available at the Brick City Weekend website, or at University Arenas Box Office.

Other highlights include:

  • Sir Dermot Turing, the nephew of Alan Turing, is also scheduled to attend Brick City Weekend as guest of the College of Science and B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. He wrote a biography about his uncle, a mathematician, philosopher and computer scientist who was the subject of the film The Imitation Game. The film will be shown in Ingle Auditorium at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12. Admission is free. Sir Turing’s talk will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in Ingle Auditorium, followed by a book signing from 2-3 p.m. in the 1829 Room. Admission is free.
  • At 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, Dawn Hudson, chief marketing officer for the NFL, will be the Saunders College of Business Gasser Lecture Series speaker. Her talk, in Ingle Auditorium, will be free, followed by a meet-and-greet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Lowenthal Hall.
  • The 2017 Presidents’ Alumni Ball will be held from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the Gordon Field House, with a reception, dinner and award ceremony honoring E. Philip Saunders, RIT alumnus Brooks Bower ’74 (printing) and this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award winners.
  • At 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, in Ingle Auditorium, RIT President David Munson will share highlights of RIT’s recent accomplishments and offer insights on his early vision for the university. He will also answer questions.
  • And returning this year are the popular Classes without Quizzes series. One featured class will be hosted by the Hon. Robert L. Wilkins, an RIT parent and U.S. Court of Appeals justice who will talk about his recent book, Long Road to Hard Truth: The 100-Year Mission to Create the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
  • This year’s featured men’s hockey game is RIT vs. Northeastern University, 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochester. All seating at Blue Cross Arena will be reserved, with no general admission. Tickets are $15; $13 for RIT faculty, staff and alumni (purchased on the RIT campus – four ticket limit per valid RIT ID); $9 for non-RIT students; $6 for RIT students (purchased on the RIT campus – four ticket limit per valid RIT ID); and $5 for children 5 and under. Tickets are available at RITtickets website.
  • Two games with the RIT women’s hockey team are scheduled against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, for 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, and 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, both at the Gene Polisseni Center. Admission is free for RIT students; $5 for parents and RIT guests; $4 for alumni, faculty and staff; and $3 for children under 12.
