RIT took home awards in three categories at the 2018 PRism Awards, hosted by the Rochester chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Rochester Institute of Technology earned three awards at the 2018 PRism Awards ceremony, including top honors in the photography category.

RIT’s Division of Marketing and Communications was recognized with a PRism statuette in the not-for-profit photography category:

Photography: “Spotlighting people, events and campus through photography,” a series of photos from campus events, featuring the university’s faculty, staff, students, alumni and guests, photographed by Sue Weisler, manager of photography, University Web Services.

The division was also recognized with an Award of Excellence in two not-for-profit categories:

Press Conferences: “$50 million moment – announcing the largest gift in RIT history” — On December 13, 2017, RIT shared news that alumnus Austin McChord ’09 (bioinformatics) was donating $50 million to the university, the largest gift in RIT history. The press conference was led by Bob Finnerty, RIT chief communications officer, and Ellen Rosen, director of University Communications.

Feature Stories: “RIT’s high-speed internet lane for emergencies” — Faculty researchers made national news with the story behind their ongoing work to develop a high-speed internet lane that helps emergency responders during disasters. The feature story was led by Scott Bureau, senior communication specialist, University Communications.

The annual awards, by the Rochester chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, honor outstanding work in the field of public relations, among both corporate and not-for-profit sectors. The event was hosted June 15 in downtown Rochester. This year the group received a record number of entries (more than 200) from local agencies and not-for-profit and corporate organizations.

Judging this competition were members of the Minneapolis, Minn., chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. More about the PRism awards and the local PRSA chapter can be found at the organization’s website.
