Update: Strategic Plan 2018-2025

RIT Vision and Mission

We shape the future and improve the world through creativity and innovation. As an engaged, intellectually curious, and socially conscious community, we leverage the power of technology, the arts, and design for the greater good.

Dear RIT community,

In November, the RIT Board of Trustees approved the university’s new strategic plan — Greatness Through Difference: 2018-2025. The approved plan, along with a new vision and mission that capture who we are and who we plan to be, is now available to the community and the public at https://www.rit.edu/strategicplan/.

Greatness Through Difference is the product of 14 months of collaborative planning throughout the RIT community. Its 25 goals are spread through four critical dimensions: People, Programs, Places, and Partnerships. The animating theme of the plan is innovation—the pivotal innovation that can only be achieved through harnessing the power residing within the intersection of RIT’s core strengths of technology, the arts, and design. In the RIT context, “innovation” is not about novelty or even originality; it is about leveraging these signature strengths to produce graduates in every discipline capable of practicing transformative innovation that serves the greater good.

I would like to thank the RIT trustees and all the students, faculty, and staff who have helped to shape this plan. Special thanks to Kit Mayberry, vice president for strategic planning and special initiatives, for her hard work on this initiative.

With the plan now posted, we are working on a more expansive web version that will firmly locate the plan within the RIT context and provide additional information about the development and implementation processes. As implementation progresses, we will keep you abreast of any modifications in the plan dictated by dynamic internal and external forces.

Please send your questions and feedback regarding the plan to munson@rit.edu.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday break.

Yours in Tiger pride,

David Munson
