Here’s to pie in your eye :) Events, News hits

If it had been a real slap in the face, the pies would have been filled with lots of creamy chocolate pudding and topped with real whipped cream, maraschino cherries and sprinkles instead of just containers of Wegmans Cool Whip.

But it was still fun to watch as photographer Paul Giovine filmed the “pie in the face” contest for Channel 13’s Bright Spot newscast last week. The annual fundraiser for the Graduate Management Association in the E. Philip Saunders College of Business netted almost $250 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation and GMA. The amount was double what was raised last year, and kudos to GMA vice president Jannette Hanna for giving the event an extra push.

As luck would have it, five business professors volunteered for duty—John Ettlie, Victor Perotti, Ashok Robin, John Ward and Neil Hair. The “losers” were Ward and Hair, who received the most money in the collection jars. Also “pie-eyed” for the event was GMA president Matt Colaprete, who had the dubious honor of being first.

But he was NOT the one to get the real honor of the day. Ward got a double dose of “piedom” when a hit-and-run business student nailed him again as the cameras stopped. As he explained to me via e-mail, “I am not sure what I did to deserve the first shot! But regardless, I will be watching the tape closely to see if I can identify who did shot #2! Happy to help out.”

So, will the real culprit come forward?
