The honor is all ours PR musings

We spend so much time at University News celebrating the successes of our RIT colleagues, I hope you’ll bear with me as I shine the spotlight on our efforts.

Five PRism Awards. That’s our tally from this year’s ceremony, held June 7 and sponsored by the Rochester chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. We’ve had a lot of success with these awards over the past several years, and this is definitely right up there among our best showings.

The PRisms honor excellence in a variety of aspects of our profession. For example, our new Web site took two awards for Best Web site, naturally, and for most improved element. RIT: The University Magazine won for best magazine for the fourth time in five years. Also, University News photographer Sue Weisler was honored for best photographer, her second consecutive triumph in that category. Final, our former colleague at NTID Media Relations, Karen Black, won for best feature story, the result of an article she placed in The New York Times. We’re told that judging of this year’s entries was conducted by professionals from the Atlanta PRSA chapter.

Awards are great, especially to be recognized by peers for producing outstanding work. But I think I speak for everyone at University News when I say that’s not what drives us. Just the opportunity to have a rewarding vocation, and to perform it in support of a great institution, is truly reward enough.
