The fall lineup… Dateline: RIT, Podcasts, Sports

Just as the major television networks make a hullabaloo over their new fall schedules, I thought I’d do the same in revealing the RIT News podcast lineup for the “new season.”

So, with great fanfare and hullabaloo (use your imagination here), I’m happy to announce that two of last season’s podcasts have been renewed for another year:

• After a summer hiatus, Dateline: RIT – The Podcast, our short (typically around five minutes) radio-newscast-style podcast, returns for a third season later this month (with slightly reduced frequency).

Studio 86, our 15-minute newsmaker-interview podcast, is back for its second season. New episodes will be released about twice monthly. (The first, an interview about rumors, featuring RIT psychology professor Nicholas DiFonzo and Susan Gawlowicz, is already available.)

• In the wings as a mid-season addition includes a new, regular podcast covering the RIT Tigers men’s hockey team (in collaboration with Chris Lerch of RIT Libraries and WITR-FM play-by-play fame). Because it’s still in the works, details are sketchy—but it will be great to again have a regular hockey-themed podcast. (You might recall that “Coach’s Corner,” a weekly interview show with Head Coach Wayne Wilson, aired during season one. Unfortunately, the podcast ended upon the conclusion of an agreement with WYSL-AM, which produced the show.)

• Plus, in partnership with the RITz SportsZone, we’ll have occasional “In the Zone” updates on fun activities happening there.

Just as our favorite TV shows sometimes get canceled (I’m still in mourning over the end, more than three years ago, of NYPD Blue), some podcast listeners will be disappointed to learn that “RIT NEWSMINUTE” has not been renewed for a second season :-(

Remember, all RIT University News-produced news podcasts are free and available on the University News Web site (see “Latest Podcasts”), via RSS feed and through Apple iTunes. Ideas for future guests and shows are welcome—e-mail me at mjsuns@rit.edu.
