Wide World of Tiger Sports – September 25 Sports

With the RIT men’s hockey season right around the corner, check out this video previewing the season. That should get you pumped up for what should be another tremendous season of TIger hockey.

Atlantic Hockey Media Day took place on Wednesday at Blue Cross Arena. Much like I predicted last week, Air Force was the clear number one choice. I said RIT would be in the top-four, and was correct, as RIT is ranked #3 in the preseason poll. The democrat and chronicle story is posted here, with some fun quotes from some of the league’s coaches.

Volleyball (7-10, 0-0 E8) – RIT Volleyball Head Coach Roger Worsley needs just one win this weekend at the Empire 8 Crossover to become the first RIT Volleyball coach to amass 200 wins. The Tigers contest against Ithaca on Sunday will be shown on Empire 8 TV.

Also, please come out and support a great cause and raise money for breast cancer research on Wednesday evening. Hopefully, we can pack the gym and make it a night to remember.

The men’s soccer team (2-5-0, 0-0 E8) broke a five-match losing streak with a win at Buffalo State on Tuesday. The Tigers open up Empire 8 play on Saturday at home against Alfred. Even though the Tigers are off to a slow start, a strong finish in the Empire 8 could net them their 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Senior Alan Smith was named the Empire 8 Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday.

Women’s Soccer (3-4-1, 1-1 E8) is on the road at Hartwick on Saturday, looking to get back in the win column after a pair of losses against regionally-ranked Ithaca and nationally-ranked Rochester. Ashley Pezze was named the RIT Female Athlete of the Week.

RIT’s women’s tennis squad (6-2, 6-1 E8) has already clinched a berth in the 2008 Empire 8 Tournament and will compete in the ITA Tournament this weekend. Freshman Lindsey Gibson was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week.

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams defeated a pair of Division I teams at the University of Buffalo Stampede Invitational on Saturday. This weekend the two squads are in Canton, N.Y. for the Hoffman Invitational/Pre Atlantic Regional. It will be a stiff test for both teams.
