The citizens of the United States are about to embark on a historic journey as we inaugurate our first African-American president. It seems only fitting that this event should be acknowledged in some way in News & Events. On the front page of this current issue there is a story about a few of the faculty and staff members who have tickets to the inauguration and will be traveling to Washington, D.C., during the next few days. As you read their comments throughout the piece, you can practically feel their excitement.
The story is accompanied by a photo of some of the faculty and staff members with some of their “paraphernalia,” and it’s apparent that they realize that witnessing Obama’s swearing-in as president is a once-in–a-lifetime occasion.
For those of us who will remain in Rochester, there is information about where faculty, staff and students can watch the inauguration on campus.
Although developing this story as you now see it was a last-minute effort by writers, photographers, editors and subjects, we’re glad that we were able to pull it off and include it in the issue.
