Gearing up for Imagine RIT Inside N&E

Plans are underway for the second annual Imagine RIT Festival, and News & Events is supporting the efforts of the planning committee and all of the volunteers who are working to make this year’s festival a success. Each issue of News & Events will feature an item related to the festival. In this current issue, we are running a Viewpoints article submitted by Andrew Quagliata, chairperson of the festival’s program committee. In upcoming issues, we will shine the spotlight on a handful of the exhibits that will be on display May 2. The staff of News & Events is pleased to support this great event.

Also in this issue, we debut our Graduate Student Spotlight. You may have noticed that we have featured undergraduate student profiles, but we haven’t focused our Student Spotlight on our outstanding graduate student population. Well, graduate students, stand up and be counted. Read Kelly Downs’ piece about a student who will become RIT’s first graduate of the computing Ph.D. program.

And, talk about 15 minutes of fame. Two really fun stories have made the pages of News & Events. Greg Livadas writes about NTID graduate Luke Adams who will appear on the CBS television series, The Amazing Race, beginning Feb. 15. We’ll all have to stay tuned to find out whether he took home the big cash prize. And, three RIT animators can see the fruits of their labor on the silver screen as Coraline hits theaters nationwide. All three worked on the 3-D animation movie and share pieces of their stories with Kelly Downs. (Here’s hoping these folks get more than just 15 minutes).

So, lots of good stuff to read—enjoy!
