Michael James
73 (master of fine arts, painting and printmaking)
has been named the Ardis James professor of textiles, clothing
and design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The professorship
was established with a gift from Robert and Ardis James of Chappaqua,
N.Y. Michael James, who is not related to Robert and Ardis James,
is a senior lecturer in the department of textiles, clothing and
design.
He has received a number
of awards and fellowships including National Endowment for the
Arts visual artist fellowships in 1978 and 1988 and a USA/France
exchange fellowship from NEA in 1990.
He earned a bachelor
of fine arts degree in painting from the University of Massachusetts
at Dartmouth, which gave him an honorary doctor of fine arts degree
in 1992. Recently named a fellow of the American Craft Council,
James work is included in numerous collections. His quilt
titled Rhythm/Color: Spanish Dance was cited in
Art & Antiques Magazine (March 2000) as one of the
Top Treasures of the Century.
