A good showing

George Brakenridge '48

After a long career in photography, George R. Brakenridge '48 (photography) of Michigan City, Ind., is receiving recognition for his work in a different medium.

Brakenridge now creates what he calls “arty art” – three-dimensional abstract works. Last year, his first effort was one of 76 pieces accepted from 477 entries in the 58th Annual Salon Show of the Northern Indiana Arts Association in Munster, Ind. The work, titled “The Laws of Life,” was awarded the Orval O. and Margaret Haag Memorial Award. Another work was selected for this year's show.

During his career, Brakenridge was a staff photographer in the catalog studios for Sears Roebuck in Chicago, did medical photography at the University of Chicago, and worked for a busy commercial studio in the Windy City.

A World War II Bronze Star recipient, Brakenridge now works part-time as a photographer and assists with exhibition installation at the John G. Blank Center for the Arts in Michigan City.
