RIT ROCS – Reaching Out for Community Service

Alumni and friends across the country and internationally volunteered in their communities on Sept, 18 as part of RIT ROCS. Alumni from Los Angeles to New York City and from Croatia to Kosovo supported this effort.(See page 11 for more photos.)
RIT ROCS will come around again next September and we hope to see you there!

Chicago area alumni enjoyed a wine tasting reception at Webster’s Wine Bar on Oct. 7.

American College of Management and Technology Alumni Chapter members gathered Sept. 20 at the hotel Arcotel Allegra in Zagreb, Croatia. More than 50 alumni welcomed guest speaker Jim Myers ’86, ’93 (B.S. hotel and resort management, M.S. packaging science), director of RIT’s Center for Multidisciplinary Studies, College of Applied Science and Technology. Myers is former associate dean of AMCT. Following his presentation, everyone had the opportunity to socialize.
Enjoy skiing? An alumni skiing excursion is being planned. Information will be posted on the Web site and invitations will be mailed as the event information is finalized.
Thanks to Los Angeles area alumni who participated in the 20th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day as part of ROCS Day on Sept. 18. Special thanks to alumni host Eric Senna ’91 for coordinating this event.

New York City
Alumni and guests enjoyed the annual chapter outing to the U.S. Tennis Open. This year the group watched Andy Roddick in the Men’s Quarterfinals. Next year, the Office of Alumni Relations hopes to offer tickets to a semifinal match.
Amy Sundstrom ’95 and Jennifer Zausmer ’93 are working on plans for a networking night. Stay posted to the Web site for event details.
Los Angeles-area alumni participated in a cleanup at Malibu Lagoon Beach.
Thank you to the alumni volunteers who worked with St. Mary’s Food Bank. Afterward, volunteers enjoyed a reception at Chey’s.

From 6-8 p.m. Feb.8, alumni and guests are invited to a Mardi Gras-themed cooking class. A chef will guide the group in preparing dinner and selecting wine, after which dinner will be shared. The cost is $45 per person and registration will begin soon.
Alumni helped with the 21st annual Big Shot. This year the subject was RIT’s Administration Circle and The Sentinel sculpture (see page 3).
The Fall Foliage Wine Tour on Oct. 2 gave alumni and guests the opportunity to sample wines and tour vineyards on Keuka Lake. Thank you to alumni host Julie Chirdon ’03.
Alumni came out to cheer on the RIT crew teams at the Stonehurst Capital Regatta on Oct. 10.

Tickets will be available shortly for alumni at a discount rate for the RPO performance “Hamlisch’s Hits” on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005. Marvin Hamlisch will conduct the RPO through his favorite hits from Broadway and Hollywood including his work from the legendary A Chorus Line.
San Diego area alumni built a sandbox for the Klassic Kids organization as part of ROCS Day activities.

Seattle alumni visited the Museum of Flight.
Alumni watched the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills battle it out on the field on Nov. 28. Thank you to alumni host Mike Woods ’92.

Alumni enjoyed a reception and a day of Big East Football as the Orangemen took on Pitt Nov. 6.
Alumni in the Dallas-Fort Worth area enjoyed brunch at the Mansion on Turtle Creek on Nov. 14. Austin alumni gathered a few days later for dinner on a double-decked paddle-wheel riverboat through the heart of downtown. The next night San Antonio alumni networked and socialized at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, and on Nov. 20, Houston alumni toured the Downtown Aquarium and enjoyed an alumni reception. Thank you to Scott Saldinger ’91 for his alumni efforts in Texas!
Bruce James ?64 (printing) guided Washington, D.C., alumni on a tour of the Government Printing Office. In his position as U.S. Public Printer, James is CEO of the facility.
