Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students in Transition: Demographics with an Emphasis on STEM Education - This report, by project consultant Gerard G. Walter, provides an overview of the educational and occupational status of students who are deaf or hard of hearing as they move from high school to college and into the world of work. Specific emphasis is given to students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors in college and STEM occupations of adult workers. The report, Transition Demographic Report, is below, under Attachments.
PEPNet College Guide
Our partner organization, the Postsecondary Education Network, has compiled and continuously updates data on the numbers of deaf students at US colleges and universities. Information about each of these postsecondary institutions can be found through the PEPNet College Guide link above. If you click here, you will get the latest culled data, effective 11/17/09.
PEPNet Colleges and Universities with Deaf Students. PEPNet maintains a list of colleges and universities in the United States where deaf and hard-of-hearing students are enrolled. We have written to each of these colleges and universities to determine the number of these students who are majoring in STEM fields. The list, PEPNet Colleges and Universities with Deaf Students which is below under Attachments, gives the total number of deaf and hard-of-hearing students at each college or university, and (in red type) an indication of the number of students in STEM majors. This list will be updated as we receive additional information.
Demographics of Persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing - While this site is still under development, its purpose is to provide a single source for access to information about educational and occupational characteristics of persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. The main focus is on high school and postsecondary students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This website will be continuously updated as more information is found.
Gallaudet Research Institute - Demographics
The Gallaudet Research Institute at Gallaudet has compiled statistics on individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing for many years.
RIT/NTID STEM Graduates, 2000-Present - This report by Sara Schley at NTID summarizes information about cross-registered deaf and hard of hearing RIT graduates for the last 10 years, STEM degree earners, and their placement status. The report, Summary of NTID Graduates, is below, under Attachments.
