Hogeschool
Hogeschool Utrecht (University of Applied Sciences), in Utrecht , Netherlands , has recently established a unique Master's program in Deaf Studies/Teacher of Sign Language of the Netherlands (NGT). The new Institute for Sign Language and Deaf Studies trains professionals who can initiate, supervise and advise on multidisciplinary processes with regard to the communication, socialization, and enculturation of different groups within the Deaf community. Teachers of NGT will be able to provide NGT training on professional and academic levels. The training is focused on the development of skills and competence through professional assignments in the actual field of practice, and students are actually working in the field while studying. Both deaf and hearing teachers are welcomed. The program, which has been officially accepted by the Ministry of Education of the Netherlands , is collaborating with the Center for Education Research Partnerships. Together, we hope to advance research concerning the training of sign language interpreters and offer HU students explanded oppportunities for investigation and study.
