About Peter and the Wolf
"The New Adventures of Peter and the Wolf", a contemporary adaptation, will be performed by the RITNTID Dance Company at the Panara Theatre in the Lyndon Baines Johnson building at NTID on the RIT campus, May 4-5 at 7:30 p.m. and May 6-7 at 2:00 & 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for students/seniors and $7 for others. Performances are for both deaf and hearing audiences.
Narrated by world-renowned actor and musician, Dr. William Warfield, the production is directed and choreographed by Thomas Warfield, director of the RITNTID Dance Company and founder of Peace Art International. This dance performance is an RIT campus-wide collaboration among the arts and sciences, liberal arts, and film/video students and faculty. Talented members of these diverse groups have come together to create a unique, exciting performance fit for the entire family.
Audience members will notice animated character enhancements and cutting-edge stage technologies in this classic children's story about friendship and community. The cast consists of deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing RIT students and staff, who will dance in a variety of styles to music ranging from classical, to swing, to and hip-hop. Ticket sales for this special presentation will begin April 24.
For reservations or for more information call the NTID Box Office, open weekdays 10-4, at 475-6254 (voice or tty), or send email to ntidtix@rit.edu.
About the RITNTID Dance Company
Rochester Institute of Technology National Technical Institute for the Deaf Dance Company Thomas Warfield, Director
RITNTID Dance Company is sponsored by NTID Performing Arts, the RIT Creative Arts Program, and the generosity of individual donors who see the potential for communication across cultural and language barriers through movement. The Dance Company is a unique ensemble of Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Hearing students. The RIT/NTID Dance Company is committed to creating a learning environment which supports the individual and encourages a sense of community within the company; to enrich the educational life of the dancers by providing challenging and rewarding choreographic and performance opportunities; and to produce public dance concerts that demonstrates the very best from each dancer and the company as a whole.
Membership in the company is open to all the RIT community (dancers as well as non-dancers, from every level of ability and experience). In its 17 years, the Dance Company has presented a diverse repertoire consisting of full length ballets, student and faculty choreography in modern dance, jazz and a variety of ethnic-based dance, as well as guest choreographers and performers, including: Garth Fagan, Sahomi Tachibana, Tim Draper, Michael Thomas and Carolyn Dorfman. Most recently, the Dance Company sponsored a Chinese dance workshop taught by Andy Wong, a Hong Kong based choreographer; and a workshop by the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble of India. Both workshops were attended by RIT students, faculty and staff. We are very excited this year about our Spring production of "Peter and the Wolf" in collaboration with the RIT animation department and which will be narrated by world renown, Grammy Award winning singer, actor, and Rochester native William Warfield.
