Workshop Description and Goals


Attend the two-day 5S/6S For Employees workshop on June 10 & 11, 2010 at a cost of $250, at RIT/NTID in Rochester, NY. The workshop will be held daily from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.


Most Lean initiatives start out with a 5S/6S program to get things cleaned up and organized as one of the first steps toward Kaizen process improvement. Based on five Japanese words that begin with ‘S’, the 5S Philosophy focuses on effective work place organization and standardized work procedures. 5S/6S simplifies your work environment, reduces waste and non-value activity while improving quality efficiency and safety. Various topics of how to maintain an organized, safe, and clean workplace that increases efficient work performance will be covered.

  • Introduction to 5S/6S

  • Understanding the 5S/6S Housekeeping - to organize the workplace sort, stabilize, shine, standardize, sustain, and safety

  • Developing 5S/6S plans

  • Implementing 5S/6S in your workplace

Prerequisites


There are no prerequisite for this workshop. This beginning-level workshop is ideal for any employee in an organization who desires to or is required to know about creating a safe, productive, and high performance workplace.

Instructor: Wendy Dannels

 

Wendy Dannels


Wendy Dannels is a deaf faculty member in NTID’s Engineering Studies department. Wendy has a MS degree in Design of Product & Production Systems and Computer Integrated Manufacturing and a BS degree in Quality Management. Her masters degree capstone project involved implementing Kaizen Event: Designing for Six Sigma in training materials.  Prior to joining NTID, Wendy had over seventeen years of engineering-related work experience. She has experience working with a variety of Six Sigma tools including: Variation Reduction Kaizen, Standard Work, Voice of the Customer, Production Preparation Process, and Training and Facilitation Techniques for Instructors.
