Workshops >Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

Workshop Description and Goals

Attend the three-day Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) workshop July 15-17 at a cost of $350, at RIT/NTID in Rochester, NY. The workshop will be held daily from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

This workshop introduces participants to both the hardware and software aspects of PLCs and their application in industrial and manufacturing  environments. This three-day workshop will be comprised of short lectures interspersed with plenty of hands-on laboratory experience.

Topics

  • Ladder Logic programming

  • Basic instruction set: contacts, coils, timers, counters and math functions

  • Hands-on programming exercises with Allen Bradley PLCs

  • Digital and analog  I/O  (inputs and outputs)

  • Binary, octal, hexadecimal and decimal number systems

  • Discrete inputs such as pushbuttons, proximity switches, pressure sensors, photo electric sensors, limit switches, encoders

  • Discrete outputs such as lights, solenoids, motors, relays, audible alarms

Prerequisites

This workshop is designed for individuals who have little or no experience using PLCs. It is beneficial but not required to have previous programming experience in any language.
