The Sloan-C Emerging Technology Conference or "What I did on YOUR summer vacation!" by Clare Dygert

At the end of June, I was able to attend the Sloan Consortium conference on emerging technology held in beautiful San Francisco. It was a great conference, and I got a lot of really wonderful ideas from the speakers. This is the first in a series of reports on some of the more interesting tidbits I picked up there. I encourage you to explore the links I will post here!

My absolute favorite presentation was by Alexandra Pickett who is with the SUNY Learning Network. Alexandra teaches instructors how to successfully harness the power of very cool web 2.0 tools and she demonstrated a lot of these tools.

One tool that you should definitely take a look at is Delicious. Delicious is a "social bookmarking" tool. It allows you to leave virtual sticky notes on websites for people who are part of a list you create. So if, for example, you wanted students in one of your classes to go look at a particular web site and see your comments on the page (but only they could see your comment), you could do that using Delicious. I am hoping we will create a tutorial on Delicious and some other new tools this year.
