ITC Announces 2009-10 theme: "Fostering a Community of Practice"

The ITC theme for 2009-10 will be “Fostering a Community of Practice”. The “community” is faculty and staff engaged in or interested in the education of deaf and hard of hearing students at RIT and the “practice“ is empowering faculty through the use of techniques, tools and technologies that enhance teaching and learning.

1. [Fall Quarter] September 18, 2009 – Social Networking Symposium. To be held in the SDC (Bldg 55) from 8AM – 1PM. Featured speakers are Professor Neil Hair of the Saunders College of Business and Professor Elizabeth Lawley, Director of the lab for Social Computing in the Golisano College of Computing at RIT.

The second event planned for fall is an event that is primarily targeted to advertise ITC and our training partners as well as the resources we have to offer, including the ITC website, ITC equipment loan program, training events, our collaboration with RIT online learning and EDR, RIT Teaching and Learning (and their workshops), and links to previously offered videotaped/captioned workshops. We plan this to be some kind of an open house/showing resources event that is informational in nature.

2. [Winter Quarter] During the winter quarter, we will offer some type of presentation regarding Virtual Worlds/Social Interactions perhaps using 2nd Life.

Our second event is to assist in the facilitation of a TSS/ITC reception and again, use this as an advertising opportunity for ITC and the resources we have to offer.

3. [Spring Quarter] Develop and offer a presentation/workshop on User Created Content Tools. We plan to collaborate with a team from Liberal Studies and EDR on this offering.

Our second offering is to offer something related to current trends in technology. We did not want to be too specific in this offering since the trends of today may be different than the trends a year from now.

4. [First week of June] We will again offer some type of studio training during one day during the first week of June that ties back to one or more of the ITC events offered during the year.
