Project Title: Conversion of Materials for Deaf Culture and Community to PowerPoint
Key Words:
Project Description:

I have been teaching Deaf Culture and Community for about six years and have developed many materials and class exercises. I feel it is time for me to start converting these materials to PowerPoint. I expect that when the materials are converted to PowerPoint, they will be easier for me to manage and more interesting for the students in my class.

Project Title: Creation of Instructional Materials Related to Theater Production
Key Words:
Project Description:

I would like to develop highly visual instructional materials in PowerPoint that I can use in my Shop Safety presentation and my backstage crew courses. I believe if I can use PowerPoint to show the students the important safety and production concepts, they will be morel likely to remember them. I also expect to use the same visual resources I create for my PowerPoint presentation in WWW materials I will create in the future.

Project Title: Incorporating Visual Materials into Payroll/Spreadsheet Applications Class
Key Words:
Project Description:

I would like to start using PowerPoint to introduce various topics as part of my lectures and demonstrations in my Payroll/Spreadsheet Applications. I suspect that Powerpoint and visual presentations will help introduce various topics, such as, calculating work time, gross earnings, different pay plans, various deductions and net earnings. I would like to experiment with different ways to show these concepts visually. For this course, I follow the units in the standard text, which I will use as the basis for my PowerPoint presentations. Some of the concepts could be shown to students more effectively with computer displays, etc.

Project Title: An Overview of the American Presidential Election Campaign
Key Words:
Project Description:

The United States will elect a new President in November. This offers an opportunity to educate deaf students about the structure of the American political system, the role of the political parties in selecting their candidates, and the power of money in presidential campaigns. Assistant Dean Gerry Buckley is setting up a special two-day workshop on the political process in September or October, and Ed Corbett, Superintendent of the Ohio School for the Deaf, and Ben Soukup, past president of the National Association of the Deaf, are scheduled to present at the workshop. The goal is to educate a large number of deaf students about the electoral process and how they can give voice to their political aspirations. Joe Bochner, the chair of the Department of Cultural and Creative Studies, has given me approval to tie in my Fall 2000 Introduction to Political Science and Economics Courses. My work would benefit the students by making visual and interesting the content of the course. As I indicated, I plan to create a series of PowerPoint presentations on the subject of American politics, including the 2000 presidential campaign. By breaking down into manageable units the difficult and complex concepts of the course and presenting them on the screen in a visually exciting and interesting way, I hope to educate my students on the issues raised or not raised in the campaign as well as to help them understand the nuts an bolts of our system. Thus, by becoming more proficient with the advanced features of the PowerPoint software, I hope to exploit to the fullest the visual imagery with this software.

Project Title: Creating PowerPoint Presentations for Freshman Seminar
Key Words:
Project Description:

I teach several sections of Freshman Seminar and I would like to produce some PowerPoint Presentations that I could use to help students obtain a better understanding of the concepts we discuss. Many of the topics we discuss in Freshman Seminar relate to locations and services on the RIT campus. I believe that a more visual presentation, with photographs of the people and places students should be aware of, will make the students more interested in the topics. I expect to produce two or three lectures during ITC and will continue to develop lectures during the 2 quarter sequence of Freshman Seminar and Career Decision Making courses.
