IOWA

There appear to be no programs in Iowa accessible to the Deaf.  Like most other states without programs, deaf clients are referred to programs out-of-state.  This may be more successful than their participation in regular treatment programs with an interpreter, where there is no other provision for their needs, such as closed captioning and TTY equipment or American Sign Language skilled staff, deaf peer support, or accessible AA meetings.  The availability of this support to the deaf client returning from out-of-state treatment is equally vital to full recovery.

This program has been developed in the course of an agreement among the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), Rochester Institute of Technology, and the Monroe County Department of Mental Health.  Copying is freely allowed so long as credit is given and the copies are not sold.
