NATIONAL CLEARINGHOUSES

The Federal Government has established seven major clearinghouses that provide a wide range of drug and alcohol related information, resource materials, and referrals.  Any clearinghouse can be reached by dialing 1 (800) 788-2800.  The following lists the clearinghouses:

(301) 251-5500:  provides information and data on drug control enforcement, sentencing and corrections policies; prevention and treatment in criminal justice settings; drug-related crime; and  research evaluation strategies.

DRUG & CRIME DATA CENTER

Operated by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (DOJ):
collects, analyzes and distributes data on drugs and crime, with special emphasis on the needs of state and local government.  Offers access to a library and specialized bibliographic data bases, including federal drug sources.

National AIDS Clearinghouse

Operated by the Centers for Disease Control (HHS):
provides information and data on the relationship between drug abuse and AIDS. English and Spanish-speaking reference specialists provide access to more than 6,000 educational materials and databases.

Drug Information & Strategy Clearinghouse

provides information on national and community programs for preventing drug abuse and drug trafficking in public and assisted housing.  Materials include HUD regulations, resource guides, referrals, database searches, etc.

Drug Abuse Info & Treatment Referrals

Operated by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and CSAP (HHS):
provides information about drug use, treatment support groups, and services. Information counselors can discuss problems and provide referrals to State and local drug treatment facilities and programs.

Drug-Free Workplace Helpline

Operated by CSAP (HHS):
provides telephone consultation, resource referrals, networking services, and publications to assist in planning, developing and implementing comprehensive drug-free workplace programs.

Funded by CSAP (HHS):
established to bridge the gap between service providers in the substance abuse field and the disability field.

This program has been developed in the course of an agreement among the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), Rochester Institute of Technology, and the Monroe County Department of Mental Health.  Copying is freely allowed so long as credit is given and the copies are not sold.
