Waiting Area - Viewing Materials

While candidates are in the waiting area, prior to their interview, we have printed off and laminated several quotes and cartoons/art by/about Deaf people, sign language, etc. to give the candidate something to look at while they are waiting.

An example of a few
As long as we have deaf people on earth, we will have signs…the noblest gift God has given to deaf people. --George W. Veditz, 1913

Just a thought….it is interesting to see that DEAF people can function in the hearing world very well while hearing people cannot function well in the DEAF world. -- Gil Eastman

One of the major aims of studying the artistic uses of ASL is to help learners discover the richness of the language, its multiple meanings, its enormous flexibility and its complicated and very useful structures. This, this knowledge is the gateway to success in education and careers as well as to full participation in our bilingual/multicultural society. --Valli and Lucas, 2000
