Ebikes for rent on RIT campus

RIT students, alumni, faculty and staff now have a green alternative to driving or taking the campus shuttle: they can rent electric bicycles. Riders participating in a pilot study starting this month will offer feedback before the formal launch of the fleet is held in the spring. RIT is believed to be one of the first campuses in the country to offer electric bicycle rentals. The bikes were built as a result of an NTID Innovation Grant, and several RIT/NTID students earned co-op credit for designing and building the bikes. More.

This year’s RIT Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend included a visit from Alec Baldwin, a ground breaking ceremony for RIT’s new hockey arena and a sell-out game at Rochester’s Blue Cross Arena for the men’s hockey team. Watch the video.

 

RIT breaks ground for new ice arena

A new athletic venue and multi-purpose facility soon will rise on the RIT landscape. University leaders and dignitaries broke ground on October 19, 2012 on the 4,150-seat Gene Polisseni Center on the south side of campus. Construction will continue for two years with an opening planned for the 2014­­­-2015 season for the Division I men’s and women’s hockey teams. More.

Ross Honored for Advancing Diversity in Chemical Sciences

Annemarie Ross, an assistant professor in Rochester Institute of Technology’s Laboratory Science Technology program, has been given the Stanley C. Israel Award for Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences. The award recognizes individuals and/or institutions who have advanced diversity in the chemical sciences and significantly stimulated or fostered activities that promote inclusiveness within the region.

The national award was given by the American Chemical Society during its northeast regional meeting in Rochester. More.

Hundreds of job-seeking RIT/NTID students attend NTID Job Fair

About 300 RIT/NTID students and nearly 40 employers from across the country attended the annual NTID Job Fair on October 10, 2012.

Last year, nearly 50 students received co-ops or permanent jobs as a result of the Job Fair, where prospective employers can meet students. On average, more than 90 percent of RIT/NTID students seeking employment find a job within a year of graduation. More.
