Integrating Technology Successfully

|
The influx of technology into teaching/learning environments has resulted in teaching improvements for many faculty members in postsecondary settings. MTV-generation students respond to teaching formats that incorporate technology. Many faculty have been willing to add technology, but have been unsure how to do it. They are faced with decisions heretofore unknown about using technology, accommodations for students with disabilities, and educational barriers technology may create. This presentation will address these complications and provide guidance for the decision making process -- when to use technology, what to use, how to use it and what considerations arise when using technology in a class with deaf and hard of hearing students with or without interpreting services Participants will leave with the ability to form a decision tree on including technology in courses. They will also have the ability to review efforts to assure the full participation of deaf and hard of hearing students in courses with technology in classrooms or as part of between-class activities. Specific strategies for more effectively integrating the use of technology with interpreting services will be modeled. Participants will be able to draft an action plan that can be implemented upon their return to work. |
