The Ombuds Office employs the following practices and procedures which are informed by the International Ombudsman Association Standards of Practice (www.ombudsassociation.org):
Confidentiality
We hold all communication in strict confidence.
We will not identify anyone contacting the office or any information about the nature of the contact without consent. (The only limitation to this practice is when there is imminent risk of harm to self or other’s).
Neutrality
We explore all issues impartially and serve to support fair process.
Informality
We work outside of the formal processes and organizational channels of RIT.
We can help you determine whether you want to take your concern to a formal level and provide you with the Institutional policies, procedures and resources that are intended for formal investigation and action. Because we are informal, we do not participate in formal grievances.
Independence
We are an independent office at RIT. The office reports to the President of RIT, for administrative purposes.
