The Bernard Osher Foundation

The promotion of lifelong learning centers is one of several major objectives of the San Francisco based Bernard Osher Foundation. The Foundation’s overall mission is to improve quality of life through support for higher education and the arts.

The Osher Foundation supports a growing national lifelong learning network for adults. Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes are now in operation on the campuses of over 100 institutions of higher education from Maine to Hawaii. In addition to RIT, New York State institutes include New York University (NYU) and the New York State University at Stony Brook.

Along with supporting individual programs, the Osher Foundation supports a national resource center at the University of Southern Maine. The National Resource Center for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes plays a lead role in disseminating information on effective educational programming for older learners. In addition to its website, the Resource Center publishes a national research journal, conducts a biennial national conference, and provides a number of other ways for Osher programs around the country to connect with one another.
