Get Involved; It's time to live your life "out loud"

Osher runs on the creative energy of its members. You make us strong, and keep us interesting and engaging. Go beyond learning…to sharing.

Lead a course

What's the topic you're passionate about? Osher members invite you to teach it. Some people tell us that they had a subject in mind that wasn't on the curriculum, so they went out and learned about it, and then taught it themselves. For some people, leading a course is the very best part of Osher membership. Learn more about how you can do it.

"Many of the classes I have facilitated have been on subjects I was curious about, didn’t know a lot about and wanted to know more. So I did that by offering a class, and preparing for that class. Osher feels like a safe place where I can do that."

"Teaching at Osher? I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. When you're teaching here, you're teaching people who are really hungry to learn."

Volunteer your talents

There are plenty of opportunities to exercise your skills at Osher. We need people who want to sit on committees, help out with social events, staff the phones... and more. Read about our volunteer openings

Tell your friends about Osher

Most of our members were introduced to Osher by their friends and colleagues. You can help us grow, too. We are beginning a three-year marketing campaign, funded by the Bernard Osher Foundation, to increase our membership to 500 members. Read more about it, and ways that you can help spread the word

Donate...

Osher is a non-profit organization. In the interest of keeping our membership fees low, we welcome your financial generosity. There are a number of ways to donate to us, including planned giving options that can lessen your tax burden. Read about ways to support Osher

Help us say "Thanks!"

Volunteers really do make all the difference at Osher. We've compiled a list of those folks who volunteered their time on committees during the last session. Read about them, and next time you see one of them, say "thanks!"

How does Osher run?

We’ve told you it runs on volunteer power, but what about the specifics? Learn about our governance structure.

What ever happened to The Athenaeum?

Well, a rose by any other name…. We’re still here, but we changed our name to Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. We’re now part of a national network of adult learning centers that provides us with significant funding and resources. Read more about this change to Osher.

"You know when you get to your 70s and 80s you can begin to think that you’re not going to make much difference any more, among the people. But here, people are teaching classes that they never taught before. And they’re planning these trips…and they get on these committees and they try out new things."

In 2006, we became an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, joining a growing national network of more than 100 university-based centers for older learners.
