Karen Barrows joined RIT in 1989, in the Information Services division of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. In 1991, she moved to the Office of the Dean at NTID and was eventually named Assistant to the Dean in 1995. She has been in the Office of the President since 1998. As Assistant to the President, Barrows manages all aspects of the President's office and works closely with the Vice Presidents and their staff.
Originally from Massachusetts, Barrows has a Bachelor of Science degree from Fitchburg State College in Early Childhood Education. Barrows earned her MBA from RIT in 2004 through the Executive MBA program in the College of Business.
A recipient of the 1992 & 1997 NTID National Advisory
Group's Excellence
in Service Award, Barrows currently serves as a member
of the Business
Careers Mentoring Committee in the college of NTID. She
also serves on
RIT's Institute Appeals Board. She is a past member of
the Support
Staff Advisory Board and the RIT Staff Council. In the
greater
community, Barrows is a member of the Greater Rochester
Executive
Assistants group, which is comprised of the executive assistants
of the
Rochester area's business leaders.
