Bob Finnerty came to RIT in 2002 in the newly created position of Chief Communications Officer.
Prior to RIT, he worked at the Democrat and Chronicle for 12 years, serving as a reporter and editor. He also served as the newsroom's First Amendment and ethics trainer. While Finnerty served as metro editor, the Democrat and Chronicle won four consecutive "Best of Gannett" awards and was named the Associated Press "Newspaper of Distinction" for New York State.
Finnerty also served as an assignment editor for R News, Time Warner's 24-hour local TV news channel. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Catholic Courier.
At RIT, Finnerty is responsible for enhancing internal and external communications. He oversees University News Services, where he is executive editor of The University Magazine and managing editor of RIT's News & Events.
Finnerty is a graduate of Purdue University. He also earned a master's degree in Multidisciplinary Studies (Marketing/Communication and Media Technologies) at RIT.
