Hector Flores was named dean of graduate studies in 2011. Flores has served in previous administrative roles, most recently as dean of science at Texas State University. Prior to RIT, he served as professor of biology at the Universidad Nacional de San Marcos in Lima, Peru.
Flores is internationally recognized for his work in plant biology. Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Flores obtained a B.S. in biology from the Universidad Nacional de San Marcos. He earned an M.S. in horticulture from the University of Puerto Rico and a Ph.D. in biology from Yale University.
In addition to Texas State University, his research and academic career has led him to serve in faculty and administrative roles at Louisiana State University, Pennsylvania State University and Arkansas State University. He has been active in serving the federal government as program director at the National Science Foundation and as a consultant to the U.S. Department of State.
