Stanley McKenzie's Curriculum Vitae

Stanley McKenzie, a member of the RIT family for more than four decades, stepped down as provost and chief academic officer in 2008 after serving 14 years in the role. He has returned to his roots: Teaching literature, primarily Shakespeare, to undergraduates. McKenzie was a professor for 34 years prior to joining the administration.

Stanley McKenzie was an RIT professor for 34 years before he was named provost and vice president for Academic Affairs in 1994.

His prior administrative roles at RIT include director of judicial affairs, assistant to the provost, acting dean of the College of Liberal Arts and assistant to the vice president for judicial affairs. He has been on the RIT faculty since 1967. His most fulfilling role at RIT was serving as director of Judicial Affairs for 16 years. He valued the opportunity to affect the lives of students.

As a child he dreamed of being an astronaut, but turned his career focus to teaching when he realized his 6'4" frame wasn't meant for space. His life mission remains to maintain a sense of humor. A Washington State native, he enjoys camping and hiking in the Northwest, typically Alaska and the Cascade Mountains, running from British Columbia through Oregon. In 1963, McKenzie won the NCAA Northeast regional table tennis championship. He enjoys both playing and watching tennis.

Other milestone contributions include serving as co-vice-chair of the RIT Strategic Planning Committee, co-chair of the RIT Priorities and Objectives Committee, chair of Faculty Council, President's Search Committee member, the Reporter Magazine advisory board member, Residence Life Advisory Board member, and faculty advisor of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

McKenzie has a B.S. in science and humanities from MIT. He holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Rochester.
