Dr. Robert Ulin joined RIT in 2008 from Western Michigan University where he served as chair of the Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences since 1999.
Prior to joining Western Michigan, Ulin served as chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Alleghany College from 1993-98.
Ulin is an international expert in the theory and the anthropology of work, and the author of three books, including Understanding Cultures: Perspectives in Anthropology and Social Theory, which has been translated into Spanish and Chinese. He has a particular interest in the development of the wine industry in various cultures and has lectured and written widely on the topic.
Ulin is a fellow of the American Anthropological Association and a member of the Fulbright Senior Specialists Roster, a collection of leading scholars who are chosen by the Fulbright Foundation and the U.S. Department of State to lecture abroad and pursue cooperative programs with foreign universities.
