Dr. Nabil Nasr, Associate Provost and Director of the Golisano Institute for Sustainability, joined RIT in 1989 as an Assistant Professor in the College of Engineering.  In 1997 he founded the Center for Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery, which has become a leading source of applied research and solutions in remanufacturing technologies.

Since 2002 he has served as Assistant Provost and Director of the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies, whose mission is to increase competitiveness of manufacturers through applied technology and training.  In 2007 he became the founding director of the newly established Golisano Institute for Sustainability.  Sustainable production systems and the built environment are the focus of interdisciplinary academic and research programs within Golisano Institute for Sustainability

For over 25 years, Dr. Nasr has worked in the fields of sustainable manufacturing, remanufacturing, clean production, and sustainable product development and is considered an international leader in research and development efforts in these disciplines. 

He has developed strong ties to industry through efforts to implement and improve sustainable design and remanufacturing processes at hundreds of companies from diverse sectors.  He has served as an expert delegate for the U.S. government in several international forums, including the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the United Nations, and the World Trade Organization. 

  • Overseeing the strategic and operational leadership of the Golisano Institute for Sustainability and the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies (CIMS)
  • Establishing program goals and strategic objectives
  • Collaborating with faculty to ensure program growth and student success
  • Collaborating with international, national, and local leaders in industry, government, non-governmental agencies, and academia to advance sustainable manufacturing and sustainable development concepts and applications
  • Overseeing GIS research and development programs and assisting in the development of external funding sources and proposals
  • Presenting the message of sustainability to industry professional groups and trade organizations worldwide
  • Guiding and supporting initiatives to promote sustainability and alternative-energy-source vehicles and transportation in the local region
