Partnership with Singapore Institute

Golisano Institute for Sustainability has formed a partnership with Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech). This collaboration includes an exchange of research personnel as well as two funded research projects, one of which is with Caterpillar. Under this agreement, GIS will be welcoming Dr. Hui Mien Lee to RIT in January 2010. Following her year at GIS, Dr. Lee will spend a year at Linköping University in Sweden in a joint research project between the 3 entities. GIS Director, Nabil Nasr recently traveled to Singapore to attend the launch of SIMTech's Sustainable Manufacturing Centre and gave a keynote address at their Seminar on Sustainable Manufacturing.

Completion of New Labs in CIMS

The CIMS team has successfully completed the implementation of Fuel Cell System research facility in Building 78, and is currently testing its first Solid Oxide Fuel Cell. The Fuel Cell Systems Development Lab has been constructed in partnership with Delphi Corp. to accelerate the launch of this new power generation technology into stationary and vehicle auxiliary power supply applications. CIMS is also researching emerging sustainable energy technologies that may be further developed in the lab.

Facility renovations were recently completed for the NanoPower Research Laboratories (NPRL), which has resulted in the creation of four new state-of-the-art laboratories. This renovation expands the total NPRL facilities to over 8,000 square feet of research space. These facilities support several sponsored research programs focused on the synthesis, characterization, and utilization of new nanomaterials for a wide variety of emergency conversion and power devices.
