July Discovery Event Gives Real-World Advice for Saunders Summer Startup and Syracuse University College of Law Students

Wednesday, July 19, 2017 - 12:00pm

Venture Creations Incubator hosted a Discovery Event for the Saunders Summer Startup, as well as students from Syracuse University College of Law.

Students took a tour of Venture Creations and were given presentations by some of our startup clients, including Council Rock, Empire Medicinals, Positive Science and Thermapparel. Each founder explained their business and held time for students' questions. Questions targeted each of the startup's specialties, as well as general questions about becoming a successful startup.

George Zheng, CEO of Empire Medicinals, explained the way to stay ahead of competition is to build the supply chain for quality and keeping things low cost. Empire Medicinals brings emerging biotechnology to traditional herbal supplements. Their Lingzhi Essence™ is a medicinal mushroom dietary supplement with a purpose to balance immunity. Zheng also answered questions about the process of getting things approved by the Federal Drug Administration.

Our next stop on the tour was Positive Science, a company that produces eyetracking devices. Volunteers put on a head-mounted VR device with eyetracking software to give an immersive experience of piloting a drone. Their next step is to use this information in drone training and to measure how well a person can fly a drone.

Our third client presentation was Council Rock, who explained how new trends in technology gives rise to new business opportunitties, such as supporting Smart Grid technologies for gas and energy companies.

The final presentation byThermapparel, whose idea started as a way for people with multiple sclerosis to stay cool in hot weather, but has now spread to anyone vulnerable to overheating. Thermapparel talked about how to make a medical product more available for everyone by working with insurance providers so that they might cover the cost. As a result of the questions, Thermapparel shared that customer discovery never stops, and became aware that they need to learn not only how customers use their product but, how they interact with the brand as whole.

We at Venture Creations Incubator thank our clients for lending their time to students from Saunders Summer Startup and Syracuse University College of Law enabling them to learn from real life examples and seeing the passionate people behind them.
