“Capabilities
enable applications;
applications
demand improved capabilities.”
Dr. Donald
L. Boyd, Executive Director,
IT Collaboratory |
The mission of the IT Collaboratory
is to create key technologies, knowledge, and capabilities to
design and integrate next generation information technology systems. Our collaborative
research is concentrated on technologies and applications in two key interacting focusses: a)
photonics, microsystems and nanomaterial sciences; and b) remote sensing
systems.
This reflects our conviction that technologies
and capabilities enable applications; conversely applications
demand improved capabilities and technologies. Such interdependence
between developed technologies and applications, when combined
with the expertise and experience of the collaborating universities,
industries, and government agencies, along with the IT Collaboratory
STAR Center research efforts and results is individually and collectively
generating economic benefits and impacts to New York State and
the Nation.
NYSTAR’s objective is to support research and technology
development that will ultimately result in commercializing new
technologies, creating new business, stimulating new products
and requirements, and generating new, while retaining existing,
jobs. Coupled with NYSTAR’s objective, the IT Collaboratory
STAR Center is providing a source for ideas, relevant technologies,
talented experts, and a skilled, educated workforce to play a
major role in the economic future of New York State.
