The National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) was formed at RIT in 1968 as one of two federally sponsored institutions for educating deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Since that time RIT has been a leader in the development and implementation of innovative educational programs for this group of students. Our research in Access and Learning Technologies started with this nearly 40 year history of research and innovation in deaf education and is now branching out to assist many specialized learning communities with tools, techniques and technologies to enhance access to learning and the technologies supporting learning. Our research laboratories and centers in this area include
- CENTER ON ACCESS TECHNOLOGY
- RESEARCH AND TEACHER EDUCATION CENTER
- CENTER FOR EDUCATION RESEARCH PARTNERSHIPS
