Mike joined RIT in 2002 to focus on the development of the “First in Class” research program through the creation of Industry and Government Partnerships. With more than 25 years in engineering, marketing, and business-unit management, Mike has worked closely with RIT’s key researchers to identify and build relationships with our strategic research sponsors. Before joining RIT he was vice president and general manager for Signaling Products at ALSTOM Signaling, prior to that, he was vice president of marketing for ABB Automation. Mike received his bachelor's degree in computer science from Clarkson University and is a double alumnus of RIT—master's of science in engineering technology, and an M.B.A. in technology management.

Donald L. Boyd, Ph.D.

Dr. Boyd has more than 30 years of experience in both education and industry. After receiving his PhD in computer science from the University of Iowa and five years as an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota, he spent 13 years in research and development at Honeywell. Initially he was director of computer science research and later as director of engineering at Honeywell's Systems Technology and Engineering Center. Dr. Boyd then worked for eight years at Eastman Kodak Company in software development and business unit management positions. Before joining RIT in 2000 as associate provost for outreach programs, Dr. Boyd served for two years as president of the RIT Research Corporation. He was appointed Vice President for Research at RIT in 2005.

Kara joined RIT in 2008 to coordinate RIT’s research communication and marketing efforts. She manages the Research at RIT magazine as well as other key marketing activities and events throughout the year. Prior to joining RIT, Kara worked for Aon Consulting in their communication consulting practice. Kara holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University at Buffalo.

Dawn joined RIT in 2008 to support the Research Relations Office. Dawn partners with various stakeholders across the university to help facilitate essential administrative functions. Previously, Dawn worked for the University of Rochester Medical Center where she worked as an intake coordinator for the Epilepsy Center. Dawn holds associate degrees in liberal arts and business management. She is also currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in business management at RIT.
