The Sustainable Design program at RIT is based within RIT's Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies (CIMS). This program applies the knowledge acquired in 12 years of addressing the problems faced by our industry and government partners in designing, deploying, maintaining and recycling the products that support their objectives. Much of this work has been derived from the pioneering work of the Center for Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery (NCR3) established in 1992.
CIMS was established in 1992 with a mission to increase the competitiveness of manufacturers through applied technology and training. CIMS' mission is accomplished through a dynamic collaboration of nearly 100 full-time in-house technical experts, support professionals, and RIT faculty and co-op students. The experienced full-time staff enables projects and training to be completed on the rapid timescale required by industry. CIMS' 170,000 square-foot facilities support solution developments in technology bays, specialized applied technology laboratories and a state-of-the-art training center. CIMS Manufacturing Outreach Programs provide a variety of resources and services designed to help business identify needs and develop solutions to address them. CIMS programs and laboratories include:
- CENTER FOR INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING STUDIES
- NATIONAL CENTER FOR REMANUFACTURING
AND RESOURCE RECOVERY - SYSTEMS MODERNIZATION AND SUSTAINMENT CENTER
- SUSTAINABLE SYSTEMS RESEARCH CENTER
- CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE IN LEAN ENTERPRISE
- MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES PROGRAM
- IMAGING PRODUCTS LABORATORY
- OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND ERGONOMICS LABORATORY
- CIMS TRAINING PROGRAMS
