Entry Requirements & Duration
The Initiative seeks to encourage student projects advancing toward revenue generation. As such, only student projects with an overarching "customer focus" will be considered. At a minimum, student initiatives require the following:
- Approved Student Business Proposal: Proposals should clearly articulate the product/service to be offered and the target customer. They should include preliminary market screening and research. If a technical or creative product or service is involved, the proposal should clearly state the status of any prototype.
- Approved Deliverable Time Lines and Objectives: Each student team must provide a timeline and list of deliverable associated with their project. These timelines should include both customer interaction and customer-oriented new product/service development. · Balanced Student Teams: Each student group must incorporate both the business, technical and/or creative expertise required for the specific project.
- Appropriate Faculty and/or Industry/Inventor Sponsorship: The Program will work with students to locate and assign a business mentor. Students interested in entering the program are encouraged to contact their appropriate academic units (if appropriate) to determine appropriate business mentors.
Entry into the Student Business Development Lab Initiative is typically for a one quarter period with renewals possible for an academic year. Student teams meet weekly with their business mentors for guidance and quarterly with the Director of the Center for Innovation. At the end of each quarter, the Center assesses team progress and determines continued participation in the program.
Interested students should contact Richard DeMartino, Associate Professor of Management, for a consultation on the program and entry process. Appointments with Richard DeMartino can be made via his assistant, Dana Pellicia at 585 475-2176 or by [Email].
